The motto of the company I founded at the start of my second career was “curiosity thrilled the cat.”That hinted at what my company did and it reflected the fact that curiosity has always guided and energized my life. In this talk, I will outline highlights of how and why I started with ten years of fundamental research in chemical physics, shifted my focus to designing and building museum exhibition pieces, and then 20 years ago moved into social sciences. I am now focusing on finding insights in community narratives and facilitating inclusive decision making for sustainable futures in communities across the world. At times in the past, my curiosity and sense of adventure extended beyond intellectual and practical pursuits to 3-5 week backpack expeditions in far North American wilderness areas (before GPS and without radio) and piloting a dozen different small aircraft.
