From its very first year, the researchers of CREDO researchers wanted to form a partnership with the University of Provence, now known as Aix-Marseille University) to provide teaching as part of the bachelor's/master's and postgraduate courses in the Anthropology department.

To make this association with the University of Provence effective, it was proposed to transform the bipartite UMR into a tripartite UMR, which came into effect on 1 January 1996.

In March 1999, CREDO has left its temporary premises at the EHESS (Vieille Charité) to move to the Saint-Charles campus University of Provence (Aix-Marseille University since 2012).

Alongside,IrAsia (UMR 7306) and a UAR (Support and Research Unit) dedicated to the documentation and promotion of research via the audiovisual service, la Maison Asie-Pacifique (UAR MAP), CREDO is one of the three components of the Maison Asie-Pacifique.
